Sigils are commonly created by writing an intention or affirmation, then condensing the letters of the statement down to form a sort of monogram. They are a symbolic representation of a person's desired outcome.
History
The term sigil derives from the Latin sigillum, meaning "seal."
Sigils have been used for many centuries in medieval magic by practitioners as signs to summon angels and other worldly beings. The word Sigil has a long history in Western magic. Members of a secret society who participated in the study and practice of the occult, metaphysics, and paranormal activities during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, used Sigils. They combined letters, colours, attributions, to create talismans. The sigil was like a signature or sign, and when used like this, they activate the subconscious, and will work unaffected by ego, feelings or desires.
Sigils are symbolic representations of energy, words, or intention statements. When activated, they help manifest the energy, word, or intention statement they represent. When used in this way they send a powerful message to your subconscious, the spirits, and the Universe to manifest what you desire in life.
Wherever you look, there are symbols and logos, which portray an idea or feeling to each of us. Think of the Maccers Symbol, or Apple Icon, they portray exactly that brand.
Our subconscious does not speak in words. The subconscious is recognised as the source of creativity, intuition, inspiration, inner knowing, interconnectedness, and spiritual enlightenment. Within this realm reality shifts and expands, creating a matrix that is far more elastic and multi-dimensional than is perceived by the conscious mind.
When you activate a sigil you are blasting that intention out to the spirit world while simultaneously signaling your subconscious to shift itself in order to be open to receive what the Universe and the spirits are offering you.
Learning to access the subconscious and to fully utilize its gifts can help us to “see” in a new way. Beyond our conscious mind and usual senses, the veil is lifted, revealing a world of unlimited possibilities.
The point I am trying to make here is that words are unnecessary to communicate or convey a message. The symbol, the representational picture or image, or sigil as we are learning about today, conveys the complete thought, concept, or ideal without the use of words to describe it; think now about the saying, “a picture is worth a thousand words.” This idea is tremendously powerful, for the way we “talk” to ourselves, our inner language, the way we know who we are, does not come from words, but rather from the timeless source within that knows who we are.
The left side of our brain is mostly about logical, analytic thinking, as in verbal and mathematical functions and all things masculine, while the right hemisphere is largely responsible for orientation in space, body image, recognition of faces, and artistic efforts, creativity, intuition and being in touch with our feminine traits.
The subconscious utilises symbolism and imagery to express itself. Words and images are “complementary opposites”, that is they are meant to coexist on equal footing. Yin and Yang.
